Huawei’s online brand Honor in India is for millennials, at least that’s what the company says and as a part of that, the Chinese behemoth has launched the Honor 8 Pro in India. The Honor 8 Pro is essentially an upgraded version of the Honor 8. At the same time, this phone also integrates features that made their way into the company’s flagship P10 smartphone. The phone has been launched for INR 29,999.

Replacing the glass back which was found on the Honor 8, the Honor 8 Pro gets a fully anodized aluminium chassis which has a rear mounted fingerprint scanner. This is a slender phone at just 7mm thin, however, as it packs a hulking 5.7-inch quad HD LTPS screen and a massive 4,000mAh battery, it weighs a hefty 184 grammes. The highlight of the phone is its 12-megapixel dual camera system.

One camera is a standard RGB camera while the other one is a monochrome camera allowing some impressive software induced bokeh effects, and overall great photography experiences. On the front too, this phone also has a 8-megapixel camera which is also supplemented with a simulated flash that comes from the main display.

Internally, the phone is very powerful. It is powered by Huawei’s Hi Silicon Kirin 960 octa-core processor coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB of onboard storage which can be further expanded via a microSD card slot. Honor has optimised the Mali GPU on the phone with the Vulkan API which promises to parley class leading gaming experiences on the phone.

Other bells and whistles included are a IR blaster, a cardboard VR paired with the Jaunt VR app and Huawei’s own Emotion UI 5.1 which deploys system level machine learning to ensure that the phone performs optimally for a long time. As part of the user interface, Honor is also providing an app from GoPro, the action camera maker, for users to edit their videos shot from the phone.

As always, this is a 4G LTE dual SIM smartphone which supports even VoLTE networks in the country like Reliance Jio. It supports modern technologies like USB Type C for charging and connecting with PCs, while retaining a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone has been launched in collaboration with Amazon India where the phone will be made exclusively available. It will be part of the Amazon Prime Day Sale on July 10th and will be available on open sale starting July 13th.

The Honor 8 Pro will go head to head with the OnePlus 5 which was launched recently in the country. While this phone has been launched in India, only a couple of weeks ago the company launched the Honor 9 in China, which should also be coming towards India soon enough.

At the event, Huawei also launched the Honor band 3, an inexpensive activity tracker that monitors your steps, runs, swims and even sleep. The band 3 features a rubberized strap which comes in orange, black or navy blue and attaches to the proprietary connectors on the band. The band 3 has a monochromatic OLED display that consumers very little power and the company promises impressive battery life on the band. It’s also water resistant to up to 50 meters. Huawei hasn’t announced any pricing for the Band 3 apart from saying it will be coming soon in July.
