Few days ago “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi entitled as the most popular video across youtube with more than 5 Billion views on it. Apparently, YouTube hackers managed to delete the video, along with other Vevo clips.
The content of many videos remained unchanged but some of them featured changed titles and thumbnails.
Despacito video showed a thumbnail with masked people holding guns.
The other artists and their channels that were targeted in this YouTube hack are:
- Adele (AdeleVEVO)
- Selena Gomez (SelenaGomezVEVO)
- Kaaris (KaarisOfficialVEVO)
- Lacrim (LacrimMusicVEVO)
- Chris Brown (ChrisBrownVEVO)
- Luis Fonsi (LuisFonsiVEVO)
- Shakira (ShakiraVEVO)
- Post Malone (PostMaloneVEVO)
- Taylor Swift (TaylorSwiftVEVO)
- Vevo (Vevo)
- Katy Perry
- Maître Gims (MaitreGimsVEVO)
All of the affected music videos were uploaded to the artist’s Vevo YouTube accounts, and it’s not immediately clear whether the hackers gained access to individual accounts or if there was a wider exploit with Vevo accounts. At least one of the hackers claim that they used a “script” to alter the video titles.
VEVO’s Statement on the above Matter:
“We are working to reinstate all videos affected and our catalogue to be restored to full working order. We are continuing to investigate the source of the breach.”
